Discover the Vegvisir Stainless Steel Necklace, a lucky symbol for the Vikings.
You are looking at a piece we are particularly proud of, this necklace bears one of the most popular symbols of Nordic mythology. The Vegvisir is supposed to guide the wearer in the right direction. That's why it was engraved on Viking longships for example.
The Vegvisir takes its name from the combination of the Icelandic words vegur (road or path) and visir, the closest translation of which in this context is "guide". Its most basic meaning is that of road sign or guide. From this we can deduce the meaning of vegvisir - the runic compass.

A compass that doesn't point north!
We are talking here about a very popular symbol among the Vikings, the Vegvisir compass also called the Vegvisir compass. This symbol represents protection and ... I'll give you the ORIENTATION!!
It is said that a Viking wearing the Vegvisir always arrives at his destination, no matter what pitfalls and journeys await him, he will make it ... In other words, you can lose both legs, your arms, your tongue and your eyes ... YOU WILL ARRIVE HOME!
So it's pretty simple, this symbol is found just about everywhere ... On longships, people's skin, shields and so on.
Translation: 'Vegur' means - road or path and 'Vísir' means - guide
A compass that maybe points north
This compass has 8 branches, which could represent the cardinal (north, south, east, west) and inter cardinal (northwest, northeast, southwest, southeast) directions.
So, as you can see, the problem is that the symbol being fixed. We don't have the needle that points north.
It's a very popular symbol because it's so stylish. That's why some of our designs have the Vegvisir! If you like this symbol too, feel free to browse Odin's Hall jewellery for our protection and guidance creations!
